This chapter focuses on domain administration tasks you perform within your environment. Follow the instructions provided in this chapter to learn how to manage services for your domain.
When you log in to your Plesk™ account, you access the Domain administration page, which displays the domain status information and provides access to various domain management functions.
The domain properties are represented by the following icons:
Table 3.1. The domain properties icons
Icon | Meaning |
---|---|
The state icon indicates the system state of the domain: | |
![]() | means that the domain is operating within defined disk space and traffic limits |
![]() | means that the disk space or traffic limitations are exceeded on the domain. The Plesk system evaluates disk space and traffic every 24 hours |
The status icon indicates if the domain is active or disabled: | |
![]() | means that the domain is active |
![]() | means that the domain is presently deactivated and inaccessible |
If required, you can rename a domain name directly through the control panel. However, for the new (renamed) domain to be properly resolved on the Internet, you must register the new name with a domain registrar and make sure that the name servers are properly specified.
Once you have changed a domain name, you should obtain a new SSL certificate, if SSL support is required.
Renaming a domain may result in problems with the software running on that domain.
To change the domain name and requirement for www prefix, follow these steps:
At the domain administration page, click the Domain administrator icon.
Check or uncheck the WWW prefix checkbox to determine whether the given domain will allow the www prefix to be used to access the domain. If the box is checked, Internet users will be able to access a domain (i.e. domain.com) by specifying either the domain name itself or the domain with the "www" prefix. If the box is unchecked it will not be accessible with the "www" prefix (i.e. www.domain.com).
Edit the domain name as desired, and click OK.
